Producer

Producer

The Château Léoville Barton vineyard covers 51 hectares within the Saint-Julien appellation, benefiting from a terroir exceptionally well-suited to the production of great red wines. Situated on deep gravelly soils, the vines enjoy optimal drainage, an essential condition for producing concentrated and aromatic grapes. This terroir, enriched by deep layers of clay and limestone, imparts a subtle minerality and a robust structure to the wines.

Owner and history

Château Léoville Barton has belonged to the Barton family, of Irish origin, since 1826—a lineage that has embodied a passion for winemaking for nearly two centuries. Anthony Barton, then his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius, and today his grandchildren, perpetuate this family tradition with a clear vision: to produce wines of great precision, true to their terroir. Deeply attached to the Médoc identity, the Barton family strives for a balance between innovation and respect for traditional methods. This long-term commitment helps make Léoville Barton one of the most consistent and highly regarded wines of the Médoc.

Vinification and aging

At Château Léoville Barton, winemaking scrupulously respects Bordeaux traditions, combined with a well-balanced touch of modernity. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, followed by rigorous selection to guarantee the impeccable quality of the wine.
The Château Léoville Barton cuvée is vinified plot by plot in temperature-controlled vats to preserve the aromatic purity and identity of each terroir. Aging then takes place in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, for a period of 16 to 18 months depending on the vintage.
