Pauillac

The Pauillac appellation is located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. It boasts 18 classified growths, including three Premier Grand Cru Classé estates: Château Lafite Rothschild , Château Latour , and Château Mouton Rothschild . Pauillac wines are primarily red wines with excellent aging potential.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild has belonged to the Rothschild family since 1853, from whom it takes its name; it was previously called Château Brane-Mouton. It was recognized as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973. This exceptional wine is also renowned for its labels: since 1945, each one has featured an original artwork created specifically for the occasion.

The Château produces several wines. The Grand Vin, Château Mouton Rothschild, is velvety and silky, with notes of fruit and sweet spices. It can be aged for between twenty and thirty years. The Second Vin, Petit Mouton , has existed since 1993 and is made from younger vines. These two red wines pair wonderfully with lamb or game such as venison.
Since 1991, the estate has also marketed a dry white wine, Aile d'Argent , made from a blend of four grape varieties. It is fresh and elegant, with aromas of citrus and exotic fruits, and can be aged for about twenty years.

Château Pontet-Canet

Château Pontet-Canet takes its name from its founder, Jean-François de Pontet, who purchased land in Pauillac and the Canet area at the very beginning of the 18th century. In 1855, the Château was classified as a Fifth Growth . It changed hands ten years later, and again in 1975 when it was acquired by the Tesseron family. Today, it is managed by Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme, who have converted the Château to biodynamic farming .

The Château produces two wines: Château Pontet-Canet and Hauts de Pontet-Canet . These are two taut, balanced, and fruity red wines with a beautiful ruby color, which can age for about fifteen years. They pair very well with porcini mushrooms and truffles, as well as flavorful poultry such as guinea fowl or woodcock.

Château Grand-Puy Lacoste

Château Grand-Puy Lacoste has belonged to the Borie family since 1978, who also gave their name to the estate's second wine. The Château was classified as a 5th Growth in 1855 and practices sustainable viticulture.

The estate's flagship wine, Château Grand-Puy Lacoste , boasts a beautiful, deep ruby color and reveals aromas of black fruit and spice. The palate is elegant and fruity. This is a wine that can age for fifteen to twenty years, developing, over time, notes of blackcurrant, almost like crème de cassis, in subtle nuances. It pairs well with lamb and mushrooms.
The second wine is called Lacoste-Borie . It contains a higher proportion of Merlot than its older sibling, is more supple and fruitier, yet still elegant with notes of dark fruit. Furthermore, while the older wine needs a few years to fully open up, Lacoste-Borie can already be enjoyed in its youth. It pairs well with tender meats such as lamb, veal, or pigeon.
