Tasting notes

The 2019 Barbaresco boasts a deep, brilliant ruby red color. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit, sweet spices, and delicate floral notes. On the palate, the attack is ample and silky, with fine, elegant tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant sensation of freshness and complexity. If Barbaresco were Burgundy, Rabajà would be one of its greatest "Grand Crus". domaine Cortese is fortunate to be located right in the heart of this natural amphitheater, which entirely defines the character of its wines. The vineyard unfolds in a spectacular curve. Cortese owns approximately 8 hectares in this cru, which is considerable. The Upper Part: More wind, poorer soils, giving very ethereal and fragrant wines. The Lower Part: Slightly deeper soils, giving more body and "fatness" to the wine. The blend: The "classic" Barbaresco from Cortese is often a blend of different parcels from this hill, creating a perfect balance between strength and finesse.

Owner and history

Giuseppe Cortese is the guardian of Barbaresco's traditions. Located in the small village of Barbaresco itself, this domaine The family embodies the essence of a mythical terroir: Rabajà. It is an "insider" address, remaining faithful to a classic, unadorned style, where Nebbiolo expresses itself with timeless straightforwardness and elegance.

Vinification and aging

After a sunny 2017 and a lighter 2018, 2019 offered ideal conditions. A long growing cycle and an October harvest allowed the Nebbiolo to develop exceptional aromatic complexity while retaining vibrant acidity.

Style: A serious, "straightforward" wine with firm but very fine tannins.
Potential: This is a vintage that will reward those who know how to wait.

At Cortese, for this wine, the aim is not to extract color or oak, but finesse:

Fermentation: In stainless steel tanks with a maceration of 20 to 25 days.

Aging: Approximately 20 to 22 months in large Slavonian oak casks. No new barrels are used here, so as not to mask the delicate aroma of the grapes.

The team's opinion

A Barbaresco of rare elegance, which reveals the nobility of Nebbiolo with remarkable finesse and depth.
