Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

With its deep, garnet-hued color, L'Ermite 2011 offers an intense nose blending ripe black fruit, graphite, black pepper, and violet. The palate reveals a dense texture, structured yet silky tannins, and a remarkably precise minerality. The finish is exceptionally long, marked by a saline freshness typical of this unique terroir.

Food & wine pairings

This great red wine is the perfect accompaniment to a matured rib of beef, a hare à la royale or a wild boar stew.

Producer

Producer

The L'Ermite vineyard is located at the top of the Hermitage hill, on very poor granitic soils with a high mica content, which gives the wine its remarkable minerality. The vines are over 80 years old, cultivated biodynamically with great respect for the natural balance, and planted at high density to promote the concentration of the grapes.

Owner and history

Michel Chapoutier, a visionary and pioneer, now runs the estate with passion and exacting standards. He has profoundly influenced the world of wine by reviving biodynamic viticulture in the 1990s. His rigorous, plot-by-plot approach and commitment to authenticity make each vintage a true reflection of its terroir. L'Ermite is a testament to this philosophy, nobly expressing one of the Rhône's greatest terroirs.

Vinification and aging

At M. Chapoutier's winery, winemaking is carried out with strict respect for indigenous yeasts, in concrete or wooden vats, using gentle extraction methods. Aging lasts between 18 and 20 months in barrels, only some of which are new, in order to preserve the terroir's identity.
For L'Ermite 2011, aging in Burgundy barrels accentuates the mineral purity and verticality of the wine, while refining its complex structure.
