    Description

Domaine Antoine Sanzay has become a leading name in Saumur-Champigny in just a few years. Located in Varrains, in the heart of the appellation, Antoine Sanzay cultivates his 12 hectares of vines organically on the region's finest clay-limestone soils. A former cooperative member, this demanding and passionate winemaker now crafts his wines with artisanal precision that captivates both enthusiasts and critics. La Paterne 2019 perfectly embodies this philosophy: a signature wine, from a renowned vineyard site, that reveals the finesse of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc and the exceptional potential of the Saumur-Champigny terroirs.

    Notes and pairings

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The 2019 La Paterne is a deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The nose reveals a precise bouquet of small red fruits and violet. On the palate, the attack is supple, the mid-palate silky, and the whole is carried by remarkable freshness. Fine tannins provide a beautiful structure, while the saline and taut finish lingers with mineral notes.

    Food & wine pairings

This Saumur-Champigny will perfectly complement a rack of lamb, duck rillettes or a mature goat cheese.

The Domaine Antoine Sanzay vineyard stretches across south-facing limestone slopes in Varrains, in the Loire Valley. The vines, cultivated organically since 2014, are rooted in clay-limestone soils rich in tuffeau, giving the wine its tension and mineral complexity. For the La Paterne cuvée, the grapes come from a single plot in the eponymous lieu-dit, renowned for the quality and expression of its terroir.

    Owner and history

Antoine Sanzay, a self-taught and exacting winemaker, took over the family vineyards in the 2000s and quickly established his signature style in the Loire Valley. Committed to genuine organic viticulture, he champions wines that evoke emotion, authenticity, and a strong sense of identity. Through meticulous work in both the vineyard and the cellar, he elevates each terroir with elegance and precision, making the estate one of the most inspiring names in Saumur-Champigny.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Antoine Sanzay respects the fruit and the terroir, with fermentations in concrete tanks and indigenous yeasts. La Paterne is aged for 12 months in barrels that have previously held several wines, thus preserving the purity of the grape variety and the finesse of the terroir.
This vintage is then lightly filtered before bottling, in order to preserve all its silky texture and aromatic brilliance.
