The Collines Rhodaniennes IGP is quite new, having existed since 2009. The regional wines bearing this designation are produced in the Rhône Valley : northern Drôme and Ardèche, and southern Rhône, Loire, and Isère. This vineyard covers 310 hectares and produces mostly red wines from Gamay, Syrah, Merlot, and Pinot Noir grapes. It also produces some white wines made from Marsanne, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Jacquère grapes.
Michel and Stéphane Ogier
Domaine Ogier is managed by Stéphane Ogier , who succeeded his father, Michel. Based in Ampuis, the estate's vineyards extend beyond the village, including in Saint-Joseph and Côte Rôtie. The grape varieties cultivated are Syrah, Viognier, and Marsanne. The red and white wines of recent vintages are characterized by exceptional elegance and finesse.
L' me Soeur is a red wine made from Syrah grapes, sourced from young vines, less than 20 years old, in the Seyssuel vineyard. The two hectares of vines face due south, with mica schist soil. The wine expresses aromas of sweet fruits (blackcurrant, cherry) and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is elegant and refined with fine tannins. It can be aged for about ten years and pairs well with charcuterie or grilled meats.
Monteillet Vineyards
The Monteillet estate has been gradually acquired by the Montez family since 1741. Today, Stéphane Montez cultivates its 24 hectares, spread across three appellations. On terraced slopes, the vines benefit from excellent south/southeast exposure. The harvest is done by hand, with double sorting and complete destemming. The wines are then aged in barrels for at least a year and mature in 17th-century vaulted cellars.
Les Hauts du Monteillet is a single-varietal red wine. It is made from Syrah grapes grown on two plots of granitic soil and aged for eighteen months in oak barrels. It is a wine with a deep ruby color and aromas of gingerbread, mushrooms, and violets. The palate is dense with pronounced tannins. This wine will reach its peak in about five years and can be cellared for up to ten years. It pairs beautifully with small game and cheese.
Jean-Michel Gerin
The Gerin family has been cultivating vines in Côte Rôtie and Condrieu for six generations. Jean-Michel Gerin He established his estate in the early 1980s by purchasing a plot of land, then took over the family business and the vineyards that went with it. Today, this estate covers nearly 12 hectares and produces 9 different wines.
La Champine is a French wine made entirely from Syrah grapes. The vines are cultivated on hillsides and upper slopes in a soil of mica schist and granite. This wine, with its aromas of red fruit and supple tannins, is fruity and easy to drink, yet possesses a certain character. It pairs beautifully with charcuterie for appetizers with friends or with braised meats. Its aging potential is limited: this wine should be enjoyed within five years before it becomes closed.
Note that this La Champine vintage also exists as a white wine, which is also very delicious with aromas of peach and exotic fruits.
