A Terroir of Power and Longevity
Located on the eastern slope of the Barolo production area, Luigi Pira's vineyard benefits from the unique geology of Serralunga. The soil is composed of calcareous-clay marls rich in active limestone, which gives the wines a robust tannic structure and immense aging potential.
The Iconic Wines
THE domaine has approximately 12 hectares, the majority of which is dedicated to the king of grape varieties, Nebbiolo. Pira's reputation rests on three historic plots (Cru):

Margheria: Located just below the village, this vineyard produces elegant wines with pronounced floral and mineral notes.

Marenca: A terroir facing due south which gives rise to powerful, dense and very structured wines.

Vigna Rionda: Considered as the "Grand Cru"unofficially from Serralunga. Pira owns a small plot there which produces a Barolo of legendary complexity and finesse.
Philosophy and Viticulture
The Pira family adopts an approach of "moderate modernist"This means that they deeply respect tradition while using contemporary techniques to ensure the purity of the fruit.

Vineyard work: Yields are strictly limited to concentrate the aromas. The harvest is entirely manual.

Livestock farming: THE domaine uses a clever blend of large traditional oak casks (to preserve the local produce) and small barrels (to soften the powerful tannins of Serralunga).
Until the 1990s, the family sold all of its grapes to large wine merchants. It was under the impetus of Gianpaolo Pira that the domaine began bottling its own vintages, quickly becoming a global benchmark.
