History of the Estate Château Palmer

        the story of Château Palmer

        The style of Château Palmer

        Reputation, tradition and modernity

In 1814, Marie Brunet de Ferrière, widow of Gascq, inherited a Médoc vineyard. Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Palmer decided to acquire this estate, already renowned at the time, without even having visited it. For some thirty years, he devoted his energy to this vineyard. First, he gave it his name, then he enlarged and modernized it to give it a unique style: that of theChâteau PalmerLater, in 1853, two brothers named Emile and Isaac Pereire purchased the property. Ambitious businessmen, they built a neo-Renaissance style château in the heart of the vineyards, which would become the emblem of the estate. Despite difficult periods such as the phylloxera epidemic and the First World War, Château Palmer has retained all its splendor. The Mahler-Besse and Sichel families rebuilt the vineyard after the Second World War, producing some exceptional vintages in the process.

Ultimately, Thomas Duroux will be at the helm of Château Palmer. His goal today is to continue improving the vineyard by introducing the necessary modernization. He aims to maintain the reputation of one of Bordeaux's finest Grand Cru wines while also protecting the environment.

        Biodynamic farming

The creation of a genuine agricultural organization

The first experiments took place in 2008biodynamic farmingThis was simply an experiment, conducted out of pure curiosity. The initial results were inconclusive. The teams fromChâteau PalmerThey then met with various stakeholders in biodynamic agriculture. Becoming aware of the true values and challenges involved in these methods, a genuine reassessment began. Biodynamics proved to be perfectly aligned with the values of this historic Château. The men and women of the estate are now in agreement with these practices and the convictions they uphold. Château Palmer no longer speaks of monoculture but of a true agricultural organism. Different herbs and plants grow, and sheep graze peacefully among the vines. Following the same principle, chemical products are no longer used on the estate. The diversity of the vineyard allows it to flourish, and the work of the teams is only enhanced as a result. A balance has been achieved.

        A Castle of Values

        Working to preserve its terroir

All the people who make up the team ofChâteau PalmerThey therefore share the same values that allow them to produce great wines. Working in a magnificent setting, they all collaborate in the village surrounding the Château and dedicate their passion to this beautiful estate. Thus, a true mosaic of expertise is concentrated on the property. This team is driven not only by the desire to produce excellent wines but also by a commitment to the sustainable management of the terroir. The equipment available directly on the property further testifies to this obsession with quality. In the winery, the grape varieties are vinified separately. By employing this method, the typicity and diversity of the Château Palmer terroir are preserved. The work then continues in the tasting room. Through numerous blending sessions, theCabernet Sauvignon, THEMerlotand thePetit VerdotThey go together perfectly.
