With this iconic bottle, Mouton Rothschild has produced a true work of art. It is probably the most beautiful setting ever created for a Bordeaux wine. For its first vintage of the 21st century, Mouton-Rothschild decided to incorporate the small “Augsburg ram” onto the bottle. A marvel from the Wine Museum in Art, a magical place exhibited in a former wine cellar of the Château Mouton-Rothschild where creators bear witness to the eternal dialogue between wine and art.
The story of Château Mouton Rothschild
Mouton Rothschild is one of the world's best-known luxury brands and a true ambassador of the French art of living. After a long struggle, the Château finally attained the legitimate rank of First Grand Cru Classé, which he had been unjustly deprived of during the 1855 classification. In 1850, the Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild buys the vineyards at auction Château Brane Mouton has Pauillac. THE château reached its peak during the reign of Philippe de Rothschild after 1945. It was also at this date that the tradition began of a different artist illustrating the labels each year, to the great delight of collectors.
Art and etiquette, an incomparable style
Over the years, Mouton Rothschild succeeded in establishing an absolutely unique visual signature by bringing together some of the most famous artists of their time:

The artists have complete creative freedom. However, certain major themes have inspired them more than others, notably the vine, the pleasure of drinking, and of course the ram: emblem of Mouton-Rothschild.
The 2000 vintage of Mouton Rothschild : a legendary vintage
For the vintage 2000, there Baroness Philippine de Rothschild had made the decision not to use any painters. Thus, the jewel of the Mouton Wine Museum in Art, the small “Augsburg ram,” was engraved directly onto the glass. The particularly complex firing method, which fixes the gold and enamel, offers a shimmering texture and an incomparable ability to catch the light. Around the black capsule, a gold ring echoes the design engraved on the ram's collar and recalls the swirling chiseling of its body. The coat of arms, the name, the vintage, and the owner's signature were screen-printed in fine gold. As for the bottle, made of high-quality heavy glass, its silhouette was slightly redesigned at the shoulder into a truncated cone shape. Attesting to its authenticity, it bears the name of Château Mouton-Rothschild.
Exactly 20 years to date, and exceptional weather conditions
The year 2000 began with a cold and dry January, a trend that reversed in February with warmer and wetter weather than average. At the end of March, the buds began to develop. Intense heat and heavy rains affected the vineyards in May and June. The first half of July was cool and wet, with the wind drying the vines and thus impacting veraison, which occurred early. Intense heat again descended on the vineyards from the end of July to the beginning of August, interrupting vine growth and promoting the concentration of sugars and phenolic compounds in the berries. In September, fine weather and a few showers allowed the grapes to fully ripen.
The final result is undeniable: the grapes are healthy, colored, tasty and tannic.

The team from Château Mouton-Rothschild has produced a truly great wine, elegant and perfectly balanced. Visually, it displays a lovely color, great depth, and garnet highlights. On the nose, a beautiful complexity emerges with dominant aromas of undergrowth, ferns, but also jammy fruit and cinnamon. The attack on the palate is full, with richness and a lovely volume that builds on dense tannins mingled with intense notes of roasting and coffee. All this is enhanced by a beautiful echo of the undergrowth aromas evoked on the nose. The finish, meanwhile, is powerful and fleshy. This magnificent cuvée reveals all the expression and pedigree of the great vintages of Mouton RothschildIts richness and harmony remind us of the very beautiful vintage 1986.
