Producer

Producer

The Geyserville vineyard, located in the Alexander Valley, benefits from an ideal microclimate for grape growing, with warm days and cool nights promoting optimal grape ripening. First produced in 1966, this Zinfandel is a historic vintage. The grapes are grown on three contiguous vineyards, on a single type of soil, deposited by an ancient Russian River bed that carried pebbles and gravel. This vineyard stretches for approximately two and a half kilometers in length and eight hundred meters in width.

Owner and history

In 1886, on the slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the first Monte Bello vines were planted and construction of the winery began. The first vintage from these young vines was produced in 1892. During Prohibition (1920-1933), the vineyard was not fully maintained; a few vines survived until the late 1930s but were virtually abandoned in the 1940s. Eight acres of Cabernet Sauvignon were replanted in 1949. These vines produced the first Ridge Monte Bello (1962) and subsequent vintages until 1974, when younger parcels, replanted in the 1960s, were considered. Since then, the historic ridge vineyards have been gradually replanted.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Ridge Vineyards Alexander Valley Geyserville 2020 is carried out with the utmost care, respecting tradition and with minimal intervention. The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted. Fermentation takes place in tanks, allowing for the gentle extraction of aromas and tannins. The aging process, the details of which are not disclosed, contributes to refining the wine's structure and developing its aromatic complexity. Every step of the winemaking process is designed to preserve the integrity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir.
