The Valpolicella terroir is a jewel of beauty, where vines flourish on gentle, sunny hills. The Vineyard and the Harvest Terroir: The grapes come from the Monte Garzon vineyard, located at approximately 400-500 meters above sea level in the Cellore d'Illasi area. This limestone and clay soil is crucial for the minerality of the wine. Grape varieties: A blend dominated by Corvina Veronese (around 60%), supplemented by Corvinone, Rondinella and Croatina. Harvest: It is entirely manual, generally carried out at the end of September or the beginning of October for the 2018 vintage, in order to ensure optimal phenolic maturity while maintaining good acidity.

Owner and history

The Pieropan family, owners of the domaine, is deeply attached to its land and traditions. It is a purely family and historical management. After the death of the visionary Leonildo "Nino" Pieropan in 2018 (the man who proved that Soave could be a very great wine for aging), his sons Andrea (agronomist) and Dario (oenologist) took up the torch alongside their mother, Teresita.

Vinification and aging

The vinification of the Valpolicella Superiore Ruberpan 2018 is carried out with great care, respecting ancestral traditions.
The vinification of the Ruberpan 2018 reflects the philosophy of the Pieropan family: to apply the rigor and precision of their great white wines from Soave to the emblematic red of Veneto.

Unlike many Valpolicella wines that rely on residual sugar or the ripasso technique (re-fermenting on Amarone lees), Ruberpan is vinified for freshness and purity of fruit.

The team's opinion

While the Pieropan family is world-renowned for its white wines (Soave), their foray into red wines with this "Ruberpan" 2018 is a masterclass in elegance. Forget the light and simple Valpolicella; here, the term "Superiore" takes on its full meaning thanks to careful aging and high-altitude vineyards (Cellore d'Illasi). The 2018 vintage offered beautiful ripeness while preserving acidity, which is crucial for the Pieropan style: finesse before power. Unlike an Amarone, Ruberpan does not undergo grape drying (appassimento), which gives it exceptional drinkability.
