The Château Léoville Poyferré vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel soils, characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation. These well-drained soils encourage deep root development, allowing the grape varieties to fully express their potential. The temperate oceanic climate, with hot summers and mild winters, contributes to the optimal ripening of the grapes. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, respectful of the environment, in order to preserve this precious terroir that has made its wines so renowned.

    Owner and history

Since 2006, Château Léoville Poyferré has been managed by the Cuvelier family, who have successfully enhanced the estate's heritage while adding a touch of modernity. Their commitment to sustainable and ethical viticulture is reflected in their environmentally friendly practices, aimed at preserving biodiversity. With an unwavering passion for excellence, the owners dedicate themselves to creating wines that tell the story of their terroir. Their vision is to produce great wines that are accessible and capable of competing with the finest Bordeaux wines.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Léoville Poyferré is a meticulous process. The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for rigorous selection. After delicate destemming, the berries undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration, which promotes aroma extraction. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aging for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (60% of which are new) imparts complexity and structure to the wine. Each step is carefully orchestrated to reveal the authenticity of the terroir.
