Tasting notes

The 2018 Scrio displays an intense ruby color. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of ripe black fruit, sweet spices, and balsamic notes. On the palate, the attack is ample and silky, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and persistent, marked by aromas of fruit and spice. A harmonious and elegant red wine, promising great aging potential.

The history of Macchiole is intimately linked to its vineyards. From the very beginning, particular attention has been paid to the land, and time has allowed for a deeper understanding of the fundamental role of nature in crafting an exceptional wine. domaine works exclusively with grapes from vineyards rigorously selected over the years, which today cover 35 hectares spread across different plots within the appellation. The Macchiole team has thus created a mosaic of vines which, together, form a harmonious picture. Each small plot, with its unique qualities, brings different nuances to the wines. It is by drawing on these raw materials that Le Macchiole They forge their style, year after year. Respect for the vines and a desire to showcase their diversity have led the Macchiole team to adopt organic practices, the foundation of thoughtful and sustainable agriculture. Their approach is personalized and calibrated plot by plot, vine by vine, thanks to the precision of their winemaking techniques, manual harvesting, and double sorting of the grapes in the cellar. Owner and history

Dating from the early 1980s, Le Macchiole is one of Bolgheri's historic wineries and, over the years, has become a benchmark for quality Tuscan wines. The founders, Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli, were among the region's pioneers and contributed significantly to Bolgheri's growing renown with their characterful wines, true emblems of the region. Today, Cinzia manages the domaine With the essential support of his sons, Elia and Mattia, who play a significant role, as well as a close-knit team of passionate collaborators, they form a large family that constantly innovates and surprises one another. Constantly evolving to remain true to its original vision, Le Macchiole is constantly evolving thanks to a careful and contemporary understanding of wine and terroir. A commitment to organic farming and an increasingly sustainable approach; a more assertive style, favoring refinement and elegance; authenticity and personality have become the defining characteristics of a domaine historic winemaking which, nevertheless, is always looking towards the future and always aware of its time.

Vinification and aging

This deep and spicy red wine was created in 1994, born from the desire to produce a 100% Syrah, one of the preferred grape varieties of domaine Le Macchiole. Rare and original, produced in very small quantities, Scrio quickly became a benchmark in Bolgheri. Its name, inspired by a Tuscan expression meaning "pure, frank, whole", perfectly describes its characteristics.

Winemaking: fermentation and maceration for 20 days in concrete tanks and stoneware amphorae.
Aging: 14 months in barrels, conical casks, ceramic and stoneware amphorae.
