    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

Its deep purple color heralds a wine of great richness. On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, and cherry intertwine with spicy and woody notes. On the palate, the attack is ample and velvety, revealing a beautiful tannic structure. The finish is long, marked by nuances of cocoa and licorice, offering an aromatic persistence that invites contemplation.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled beef fillet or duck breast with red berries.

The vineyard of Château Calon-Ségur The vineyards extend across clay-limestone soils, ideal for cultivating Bordeaux grape varieties. The vines, some several decades old, benefit from optimal sunshine thanks to their south and southwest exposure. The diversity of the terroirs allows for a unique expression of each grape variety, contributing to the complexity of the wines. Sustainable vineyard management ensures a balance between tradition and innovation, preserving soil health and grape quality.

    Owner and history

Historical references abound in the village of Calon, which owes its name to a small boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank to the other. In the 18th century, the Château Calon Ségur belonged to Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur, nicknamed the Prince of Vines. The heart adorning the Calon label recalls the spirituality of this emblematic owner. In 1855, the Château acquires the rank of Third Cru Classé. From 1894 to 2012, the property was passed down through generations in the Gasqueton family until its acquisition in 2012 by the Suravenir Insurance Group, a subsidiary of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. At that time, Laurent Dufau was appointed Managing Director of the property and works in collaboration with Technical Director Vincent Millet. The property also produces a Second Vin The Marquis de Calon Ségur.

    Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Calon-Ségur It is a meticulous art. The grapes, harvested by hand, are rigorously selected before being destemmed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise temperature management. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, for 18 to 24 months. This process gives the wine its structure and complex aromas, while respecting the identity of the terroir.
