    History of the Estate Montirius

    the story of Montirius

    Montirius Estate

    A family estate

In 1947, the maternal grandfather ofEric SaurelThe current owner of the vineyard founded the estate. However, it was his father, Max Saurel, who became a pioneer in preserving the vineyard's soils. He stopped using chemical fertilizers as early as 1980. Six years later,Eric Saurelsettles on thefamily estateAfter obtaining a degree in oenology, he and his wife took over the vineyards. While the winery initially intended its production for private use, its first vintage was produced in 2002. Justine and Manon Saurel, respectively graduates in oenology/wine marketing and international business, then joined their parents on the family estate.

    Choosing Biodynamics

Eric Saureland his wife therefore decided to continue the momentum initiated by their predecessor. They definitively eliminated all forms of chemical treatment and pesticides. In 1996, they converted their vineyard and obtained Ecocert SAS Organic and Biodynamic Biodyvin certifications. This certification allows them to attest that all their vintages from 2006 to 2011 meet the European criteria of the new winemaking specifications for organic wine. Thus, the cultivated land is healthy. The vines and grapes remain pure and express all the remarkable aromas of the region. Furthermore, no wood is used in the cellars.Montiriuswhich further enhances the authentic character of the wine.

    Respect the environment

The search for a fair balance

The entirety of the work of theSaurel familyis therefore based on the principles of thebiodynamicsThus, their agriculture is practiced with the utmost respect for the environment: the fauna, the flora, but also humankind. By adapting to the demands of nature and the rhythms of each wine, they come as close as possible to perfection. Furthermore, the extraordinary setting of the estate, blending garrigue and blue clay marl, also contributes to the delicate and authentic character of this wine. The owners ofMontiriusThey therefore work tirelessly to produce great terroir wines. These wines will satisfy the palates of true enthusiasts.
