History of the Estate Roc d'Anglade

          the story of Roc d'Anglade

          The history of Roc d'Anglade

A wine served at the table of the Sun King

The earliest mention ofRoc d'AngladeIts history dates back to 936. However, its renown truly took hold in the 17th century when Louis XIV served it at his court. This wine, produced by local farmers, was appreciated by the king, who awarded it the Blason Viticole distinction in 1696. L'Anglade experienced a meteoric rise in viticulture in 1870 with over 650 winegrowers, vineyard workers, and coopers. The village grew, as did its reputation, which spread far and wide. Then the phylloxera crisis devastated the vineyards, and it wasn't until 1886 that viticulture resumed its course. Indeed, over 200 hectares of vines were planted, and the passionate work of the winemakers allowed the village's wines to obtain several distinctions in the 20th century.Domaine Roc d'Anglade was created in 1999byRémy Pédreno, still at the head of the estate today. The appellationGard Regional Winesis little recognized and imposes few constraints on winegrowers.Rémy PédrenoHe is therefore free to apply his own style and give free rein to his expertise. It's a great success!

          The terroir of Langlade

A cousin of the Burgundy region

THE9 hectares of vineyards at Roc d'Angladetake advantage ofexceptional terroirIndeed, the vineyard rests on clay-siliceous soil over calcareous marl, reminiscent of Burgundy vineyards. Because the vines face north, the grapes possess a lovely freshness. In order to respect this environment and the quality of the fruit,Rémy Pedreno cultivates his vines organicallyand its wines are certified organic. All vineyard work, including the harvest, is done by hand. The grape varieties are predominantly Chenin Blanc (70%), followed by Chardonnay and Grenache Blanche for the white wines. The reds are made from Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah. Of the estate's 9 hectares, 7 are dedicated to red wine production and 2 to white wine. A total of 36,000 bottles are produced annually in the vineyard.Roc d'Angladewhose average age is around 25. The objective ofRémy Pedrenois to produce wines that best express the vintage and the sublime terroir of Roc d'Anglade.

          The wines of Roc d'Anglade

A unique style that continues in the winery

The originality and genius ofRémy PedrenoThe winemaking process continues in the winery. The harvested grapes are transported to the winery where they are immediately pressed and placed in vats without destemming. The vat is left open, and the cap is submerged for 18 days. The young wines are aged in oak barrels or demi-muids for 12 to 16 months, depending on the vintage. Finally, the wine is bottled without fining or filtering. The wines ofRoc d'Anglade are uniqueand bear witness to the character and expertise of the winemaker. The white wine belongs to the select circle of the best white wines of the South. Indeed, the Roc de l'Anglade white is flavorful and offers aromas of white fruit and cereals. On the palate, it reveals a beautiful volume and exquisite freshness. This vibrant freshness is also found in the rosé cuvée.Roc d'AngladeThis red wine has a woody and fruity nose with aromas of blackcurrant, wild cherry, and blackberry. On the palate, it is luscious and offers finely textured tannins. It is recommended to decant this wine for an hour before serving. It pairs wonderfully with a butcher's cut of beef or lamb chops.
