A Heritage of Vieilles Vignes
THE domaine exploits approximately 8 hectares, primarily on the prestigious appellations of Volnay And Pommardbut also on Puligny-Montrachet for whites.
-
The strength of domaine : A heritage of vieilles vignes exceptional.
-
Key climates: Elite Premier Crus such as Volnay Les Caillerets (often considered the finest), Volnay Clos Oaks, or even the imposing Pommard Les Rugiens.
The Philosophy of Thierry Glantenay
Trained as an engineer, Thierry brings an almost scientific precision to his work, while remaining deeply respectful of tradition.
-
In the vineyard: Careful cultivation, soil tilling and controlled yields.
-
In the cellar: The intervention is minimal. Destemming is total (generally), and aging is done with a moderate proportion of new barrels (approximately 25-30%) so as not to mask the purity of the fruit.
The Style of Wines
If you are enjoying a bottle of domaine, Here's what you can expect:
-
Nose : An explosion of small red fruits (cherry, raspberry) with, on the Volnay crus, floral notes of violet.
-
Mouth : A silky, ethereal texture. These are wines that define the term "lace." The Pommards, although more structured, retain that elegance characteristic of the Glantenay style.
-
Guard : Although approachable when young for their vibrant fruit, Premiers Crus possess an impressive aging capacity, developing over time notes of undergrowth and fine spices.
Tasting note: THE Volnay 1er Cru The Caillerets is often the jewel of domaine. It is a mineral, taut wine with incredible persistence that rivals, without blushing, some of the Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits.
