History of the Estate Château Mangot

      the story of Château Mangot

      A historic property

      Five centuries of history

The story ofMangot CastleIt dates back to 1515. The Dubreuil family, merchants in Castillon, became "Lords of Mangot". The cultivation of vines on the Mangot lands is mentioned as early as March 6, 1559, in a document describing vines planted in "belts, furrows, and rows". The vineyard was almost certainly already planted in rows.

The revolution fragmented the property and divided the land into several entities: Mangot, Lisse, and Bardoulet. Between 1954 and 1985,Little JohnAnne-Marie's father, the current owner, will be keen to reconstitute this historic vineyard by gradually buying back the entities in order to return these 34 hectares to Mangot.

      A family story

      Parents and children

Anne-Marie Petit, after taking over the property with her husband, Jean-Guy Todeschini, following the retirement of her parents in 1989, was able to pass on the family passion for winemaking to her two sons, Karl and Yann, who joined the adventure in 2008. Upon arriving at the family property, they created the "Mangot Todeschini" cuvée, the top of the range of the property.

      A recognized quality

      Grand Cru of Saint-Emilion

After 10 years of uprooting, terracing, and planting, the Todeschini family received recognition for the quality of their work in 1998: 100% of their vineyard was certified as Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Following the vineyard work, a renewal of the buildings began in the 2000s.

Today, the Todeschini family is recognized by its peers as a great family of Saint-Emilion:

      • In 2011, Jean-Guy Todeschini was appointed Jurat of Saint-Emilion,
      • followed by his son Karl in 2015.

Today, Château Mangot is certified as organic, starting with the 2020 vintage. This certification recognizes 12 years of practice according to the specifications of organic farming.
