History of the Estate Château La Fleur-Pétrus

the story of Château La Fleur-Pétrus

        Château La Fleur-Pétrus

        250 years of history

THEChâteau La Fleur-Pétrusis near the localities of Pétrus and Lafleur, which inspired its name. Although the building overlooking the vineyard testifies to its existence as early as 1782, Château La Fleur-Pétrus is not mentioned for the first time until the beginning of the 19th century. It is notably mentioned in an 1874 edition of Cocks & Féret. Presented under the label “Petrus-Lafleur"and belonging to the Constant family, it then produced around 4800 bottles a year. It did not then enjoy the same prestige as its neighbors.

It then belonged to the Pineau family, who enlarged it, then to two other owners, before passing into the hands of the current owners, theMoueix familyIt was at this point that the wine reached its current level of excellence. In the 1990s, it experienced considerable growth and gained international recognition. It thus became a staple on many of Europe's finest tables and possesses all the qualities sought after by the most discerning palates.

        Jean-Pierre Moueix Establishments

        A family story

First in the hands ofJean-Pierre MoueixAs early as 1953, the estate suffered the devastating frost of 1956. Following the disastrous consequences, it was forced to replant almost its entire vineyard. Subsequently, as the years passed and the vines aged, the wine naturally gained in complexity and richness. In 1995, it benefited from a new impetus. The vineyard was then expanded, incorporating a new 4-hectare plot of old vines, which it owes to...Château Le GayThis also enhances the power of his wine, while perpetuating the quality and style of the wine.

It's todayChristian MoueixJean-Pierre's second son, who heads Château La Fleur Pétrus, and his son Édouard, continue to rank this wine among the best of its appellation. They entrust the technical management of all their properties toEric Murisascoin 2007. He is accompanied by consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet, who held his position for many years before handing it over to him.

        Pomerol

        Magnificent terroir

Ideally located in the heart of the plateauPomerol, THEChâteau La Fleur-PétrusIt benefits from a terroir renowned for the quality of its wines. Its vineyard extends over 18.7 hectares north of Pétrus, on gravelly soils with clay. Recently restructured, it offers particularly brilliant recent vintages that are gaining in depth. Its grape varieties are composed of 80%merlotand 20% ofcabernet francThese proportions lend structure and finesse to the wines. The vines are on average 35 years old and planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The estate vinifies its grapes traditionally, using single Guyot pruning, leaf thinning, and cluster thinning. The aging potential of its wines can thus exceed 30 years.
