From fortified keep to Grand Cru Classé

At the heart of theMargaux appellationstands a fortified keep surrounded by a dense forest. It was in this inhospitable setting that in 1522Thomas De Donissancame to plant the first vines.
The story ofChâteau GiscoursIt truly begins when the property is acquired byMarc Promisin 1825. It was he who had the immense neoclassical palace built that can be seen today, as well as all the agricultural infrastructure.
The next owner,Jean-Pierre PescatoreHe set his mind on enhancing the building and developed the vineyard. Rumor has it that this decision was motivated by a desire to impress theEmpress Eugenie, passing through the Bordeaux region. In 1855, the allocations for the classification ofGrands Crus of the Médocfurther solidify the reputation of Château Giscours by ranking it among the3rd Classified Growths.
The familyCrusewill continue along this path, notably by modernizing the winery's infrastructure. The quality of the wine produced was already beyond question.
Despite this promising momentum, the economic crisis of 1920 and then the Second World War brought development to a halt.GiscoursThe vineyard, which covered 46 hectares in 1919, was reduced to 7 hectares and the owners went bankrupt. It was only in 1952, when it was bought by theTari family(current owners), that Château Giscours is finally finding a second wind. Heavy investments and the arrival of the now-missedEric Albada-Jelgersam- replaced by Alexander Van Beek since June 2018 - allow it to regain its former appearance.

An exceptional terroir

Based on a 200-hectare property,Château Giscoursoversees an 87-hectare vineyard. This estate comprisesCabernet Sauvignon(60%),Merlot(32%),Cabernet Franc(5%) andPetit Verdot(5%) takes root in an exceptional terroir. The components there are indeed ideal.
First of all, the soil conditions are very favorable.
