After an unbearable waitHere, finally, is Robert Parker's new rating for the 2010 vintage in Bordeaux. The tasting took place during his last visit to Bordeaux in January 2013, when most of the wines had just been bottled.
2010 vintage: exceptional quality
A structured, tannic vintage, remarkably balanced despite high alcohol levels and surprising freshness. The 2010s will be remembered for their exceptional aging potential. The wines are rich in flavor, silky, and beautifully harmonious.
Robert Parker's rating system
96-100: "An extraordinary wine with a deep and complex character, revealing all the qualities expected of this type of wine. Such wines deserve a special effort to find, buy, and consume." 90-95: "Exceptional wine, complex and with a strong character. In short, superb wines." 80-89: "Wines ranging from average to very good, displaying varying degrees of finesse and flavor."
Rating summary
Ten châteaux received the ultimate score of 100/100. This is a decrease compared to the 2009 vintage, for which 19 châteaux received a score of 100, but it remains very rare! The biggest surprise is the Château Pape Clément Pessac Léognan which obtained a 100 while its En Primeur score was 93-95+. The 2009 vintage and 2010 vintage are both exceptional. Determining which is better remains an unanswered question, as the vintages are very different. James Suckling, former Wine Spectator editor and specialist in this region, seems to favor the 2010 vintage, for which he awarded 11 scores of 100/100, while Robert Parker definitely prefers the 2009.
