Inauguration of the new winery at Château de Pressac

THE Château de Pressac, its history

Inauguration-Château de Pressac

Cavissima was invited to Château de Pressac by Jean-François and Dominique Quenin on the occasion of the inauguration of the new winery. Since 1997, they have been the proud owners of this superb Saint-Émilion. Grand Cru Classé.

This property is steeped in history. Indeed, it was the site of the surrender at the Battle of Castillon in 1453, thus ending the Hundred Years' War. It is also the heartland of Malbec in Bordeaux, a grape variety formerly known as "Noir". de Pressac"and brought from Quercy by Vassal de Montviel in 1737.

An invitation to the inauguration of the new winery

The wine cellar of Château de Pressac

Today, a new stone is added to the edifice: a winery, perfectly integrated into the historic complex, simple and functional. A single objective: to produce authentic and unique wines, representative of the terroir. de Pressac.

The inauguration of this winery was an opportunity to rediscover this magnificent 41-hectare property in one piece, located on the edge of the superb plateau of Saint-Etienne de Lisse, a resurgence of the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion.

The winery was built entirely with the help of local contractors and craftsmen. It includes truncated conical vats to promote elegance and finesse, as well as a barrel cellar for the second year of aging the wines.

The event schedule

This wonderful event also provided the opportunity to attend a magnificent performance by Claire de Monteil, a renowned soprano. A delightful surprise from the owners for their guests, it was a chance to showcase the superb acoustics of this new venue!

During the evening, we had the opportunity to taste the 2009 and 2015 vintages, two exceptional years demonstrating the excellent aging potential of these wines. They are a testament to the quality of the terroir and the work carried out by Jean-François and Dominique Quenin.

  • The 2009 is made of velvet, with perfectly melted tannins, a framework of ripe fruit and a polished aromatic profile, all in a rounded, very pleasant way.
  • The 2015 is full of energy, dense, and delicious. A wide aromatic range, from notes of fresh blackberries to sweet spices, underscored by subtle woody notes. The whole is very harmonious.
