2014 Vintage: First Harvest Forecasts

Agreste, the statistical service of the Ministry of Agriculture, published the following at the end of July: initial harvest forecasts from the 2014 vintage.

Firstly, the quantities are on the rise. A relief for the winemakers who have undergone a 2013 vintage historically low in quantity. 2014 production is estimated at 46.40 million hectoliters, representing an increase of 9.5% compared to 2013.

THE Bordelais is doing well with a 50% increase compared to 2013, despite the hail that affected 1500 hectares on the tip of the MedocThe grapes are in good health and producers are hoping for a very good vintage! The same trend is observed in the vineyards of Southwest.

In Burgundy, THE forecasts are excellent for quality grapes But alas, the quantities will once again be small.The hailstorms at the end of June devastated a large part of the vineyards. However, estimates are higher compared to 2013. Another year of low yields for Burgundy, which will undoubtedly impact prices.

In short, in other regions:

• In Rhône Valleythe quantities will be relatively stables compared to previous vintages.
• The region Languedoc-Roussillon has forecasts heterogeneous with a significant deficit in the departments of Aude and Hérault.
• Finally, the Loire Valley is doing well with beautiful grapes and a harvest estimated at +7%.
